Expanding the traditional role of a nursing assistant, the Texas Careers' Patient Care Assistant/Technician Diploma program is designed to help prepare you for employment as a cross-trained nursing assistant known as a Patient Care Technician (PCT). This program offers a broad foundation of knowledge and skills, and can also provide supplemental training if you were previously, or are currently, employed in the following roles: Health care technician Patient care assistant Nursing aide and orderly Home health aide Phlebotomist Electrocardiograph aide Allied health assistant Patient Care Assistant/Technician Duties As a patient care assistant/technician, your duties may include assisting with the care of outpatients and inpatients suffering from a variety of diseases, injuries, or neurological or orthopedic problems. You may help patients walk to and from therapy with a gait belt, set up equipment for patient treatments, assist with community outings, and perform a variety of other duties.
